It is with a heavy heart that I received news this week that my studio building, and one of the UK's long established craft organisations Craft Central, will be closing their doors permanently on the 29th February 2024.
Following Craft Central's move to The Forge in 2017 there has been a series of financial struggles, including the hard-hitting pandemic, which led to its closure. Read the full message from the Trustees here.
"The organisation has experienced extreme financial difficulties since moving from our building in Clerkenwell Green in 2017, which were further compounded by the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic, rising costs, particularly utility bills, and a decline in funding for arts and crafts in the UK" Craft Central.
I have been a member of the CC community since 2016, a studio holder since 2019 and this end brings about a great personal sadness. Whilst this means an immediate loss of my studio and close community, it also sees a huge loss to the craft world.
For over 50 years Craft Central successfully nurtured a collective community of artists, makers, designers and creatives of all disciplines. Their aim was to connect makers to a wider network, support businesses with valuable opportunities, exchange of ideas, collaborations and offer benefits from practical services and resources.
Alongside individual workspaces, both the Clerkenwell and Isle of Dogs locations came with impressive gallery spaces which provided unique opportunities for showing and selling your work, promoting yourself and your products.
Promotional design for Craft Central's Winter Market, by Gina Pipet.
Since my very first selling event at St. John's Square in Clerkenwell I have been involved in their annual Spring and Winter Marker's Markets, Open Studio events, Clerkenwell Design Week, London Craft Week and London Design Festival, as well as collaborative pop-up shops in their spaces. I have had the opportunity to work on several graphic design projects, as well as being part of their Graduate Support Programme, offering peer support and skill exchange though mentoring.

I have met countless fantastic people throughout the organisation. Many whom have remained in my close circuit of friends and creative network, and who I still share a coffee and a chat with today.
I'm grateful to have been part of this maker-community, and touched by so many of you that have reached out with kind words and offers of help. Thank you!
Makers' Market in The Gallery at The Forge
With the Notice of Closure giving just two weeks to vacate, I will be relocating my studio at The Forge to a temporary location. Unfortunately this means there will be no print workshops for the foreseeable, and a goodbye to the CC annual Christmas Maker's Market which was a fixture in many diaries.
Fear not, as I'm taking part in some exciting events in the coming months. The next one being a Sample & Seconds Sale on the 2nd March with Local Makers Market. Find out more here in our Events Diary.
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope to see many of you throughout the year.

With a different campaign theme each year International Women's Day provides an opportunity to learn, ask questions, raise debate and make positive steps forward. This IWD we take a deeper look at the campaign, and share some images from our #BreakTheBias photoshoot of 2022. A year on, and although the themes change, the struggles continue.
The IWD campaign for 2023 is #EmbraceEquity. It’s aimed at opening conversations as to why equal opportunities aren’t enough. To live in a truly equal and inclusive world we need to understand better the difference between Equality and Equity. I wanted to learn more, so headed over to the International Women’s Day website and started with their basic definition of each word:
The IWD website has some great infographics and illustrations which help to articulate this really clearly. This short clip from Sharon Amesu below also gives a brief introduction to Equality vs Equity.
This post originally started out sharing some great photos of four beautifully strong women who had faced gender bias in their lives and careers. Although the theme for this year’s IWD campaign has changed, the struggles continue. I wanted to share these experiences with you all to acknowledge some of the issues still faced today in the workplace.
'Mrs. Robinson' creator, Donna Ford is a London based photographer. She holds branding photo shoots and takes Power Portraits of women in business. After hearing first-hand so many stories of inequality, Donna got together a small group of her Power Women and held a shoot on IWD last year, inviting them to share their experiences as Mrs. Robinson.
Set to the theme of Mad Men’s empowered women, Peggy, Joan, Betty and Megan, the stories are connected by experiences of work, motherhood, discrimination and lack of choice. I had been invited to provide the accessories for the 60’s inspired wardrobe, and had an interesting day on set learning more about the struggles that are still taking place in the work place today.
Below are the stories and a few photos from the day.
Mother & lawyer Parisa refused to succumb to climate crisis overwhelm
and suggestions that she was simply hormonal or over emotional as a new
mum. Now she runs a a registered charity supporting the sustainable living
for thousands of folk in South East London and involved in groundbreaking
climate research. She’s also now a sustainability consultant.
Parisa wears our Classic Baltard Diamond Square scarf.
When made redundant whilst on maternity leave, Prarthana’s life fell apart. Her confidence and identity shattered into pieces. But now she is a mum to two daughters is committed to doing her bit to create a future free of gender biases and being full of herself.
Prarthana wears our Graphica Skinny Silk Scarf
Why are intelligent young women being pressured to settle down? Yetunde is a woman finding fulfilment on her own terms, without a man, trying to ignore the cultural blueprint passed on to and expected of her.
Yetunde wears our Graphica Skinny scarves in Orange and Mauve
Liz, sick of the gender pay gap and women’s inequality is now reclaiming feminine power in the restructuring of society. She strives for equality and harmony between the sexes, for a world that honours women and their unique bodies, minds and souls.
Liz wears our Twist Mini Silk Scarf
Despite the underlying reasons for bringing everyone together it was such a great day of collaboration and creativity. It really was a joint effort all round, with HMU: @amyinwood.beauty, Custom made dresses by @michelle.witheriff, Scarves and accessories provided by @pipetdesign, Studios: @sunsetstudioslondon, Lighting: @johnforddp, Creative direction and photography by @donnafordography
Set in a 'Mad Men' era, that still takes place today, each image portrays the stories and experiences, and the joy of breaking free from those bias. These are just a few of my favourite images from the day.
You can see more of Donna’s work here and her post Mrs. Robinson featured with Estila magazine.

It’s important to continue working towards new belief systems which encompass gender and equity in hope of reaching a more equal world for all. IWD 2023 raises many interesting discussion points, and its all too easy to jump on the next trending # without really taking the time to understand it.
If you want to learn more about this topic, I highly recommend taking a deep-dive into the campaign and having a follow on social media especially on the 8th March each year.

Beautifully considered design in the making.
Here in the studio a beautiful product doesn’t just need to look good or perform well, but it has to be made considerately too. One of the ways we do that is by supporting the UK’s growing textile and creative industry through our local production. In doing so we are lowering our carbon footprint by tapping into an expanding economy of UK manufacturing and eliminating the pollution from frequent travel to far reaching destinations.
Working with smaller scale heritage manufacturers mean they often have expert teams that have developed their skills in certain products for many years. Their knowledge of production methods, how to handle delicate fabrics and where to source locally is second to none. They understand working with designers and, like-minded they are committed to achieving the best results.
A great deal of work is done behind the scenes to deliver the best product that is both expertly printed and thoughtfully crafted here in the UK. I’ve done the travel to far corners to develop product, and let’s just say that this is a much more amenable way to work in many aspects.
Of course, there are many other practical benefits of onshore production (like working to the same time zones, export/import, currency - to give just a few examples) But I wanted to highlight my top three with you here.
What could be more resourceful as a small business than being able to visit your factories in a day and back? Many printers, mills and factories are located within easy reach, and thankfully we have a great a public transport network, which is much less harmful to the environment than flying.
More reachable order quantities benefit you, me and the planet. Teaming creativity with priority we produce only what we need. Ultimately this means we can create more exclusive collections whilst saving resources and eliminating waste from excess stock production.
Crafting strong relationships. Visiting the place where it all happens provides us with a unique opportunity to learn from our makers. Understanding the process (and often its limitations) is vital and enables us to design a product to the best possible standard.
Many manufacturing opportunities had been lost over the years as UK factories closed and small textile industries were overridden by offshore giants. With the rise of new technology and machinery, manufacturing in the UK is starting to return, and with it often grants smaller production quantities and quicker turnaround times. These attractive terms open up a range of possibilities for the new generation of designers that would otherwise only be viable to a larger organisation.
Producing in the UK is exciting and I’m delighted to know so many diverse makers. Whether it’s our expert print partners who use state-of-the-art digital print technology to create our fabrics, or our umbrella makers with over 215 years family heritage - just a 10-minute bike ride away. I’m lucky to have these opportunities on my doorstep.

Despite the surge towards 'Made in UK' after Brexit and Covid-19, there is still a large number of craft disciplines at threat of extinction in the UK.
Heritage Craft's Red List of Endangered Crafts features a fascinating list of skills - including Umbrella Making which is ‘Endangered‘, Fabric Pleating and Diamond Cutting both ‘Critically endangered’ and Cricket Ball making which is now ‘Extinct’ in the UK.
I wanted to share the link above with you as it provides some really interesting information behind the workers, their skill and the factors as to why these crafts are now dying out. Many of these crafts listed you may never have heard of, or even thought they were made here in the UK.

Reimagining architecture through shape, colour and form, our recent collections have turned to the powerful Brutalist and Art Deco architecture seen within our city. In this first 'Design Short' I share a brief look at the origins of the design story and the inspirations behind our geometric prints.
Since our very first collection in 2012, I have looked at the man-made and constructed world as starting points for each design.
Our first full collection referenced ornamental jewels and hair accessories, and looked towards the Art Nouveau style that flourished between about 1890 and 1910. A movement that included architecture, interior design, jewellery and glass design, posters, and illustration. Although Art Nouveau itself was influenced by nature, it was the sinuous and graceful shapes that were chosen by the creator to represent nature, that I found interesting.
Pipét SS13 Development Board
Through my training in fine art, textiles and photography, form has always featured in my work. Applying the notion of looking beyond an object is where ideas start to appear - seeing a subject for its shapes, repetition and contrasting forms.
Early on, trips around the city and holidays further afield became architectural pilgrimages, turning my design eye towards some of the world’s most intriguing buildings. Buildings that have led me to delve deeper into their beginnings and creation story.
Leaning back into the manufactured geometry, I’ve have become fascinated by strong shapes seen within architecture – whether that be the Barbican’s fountains and barrel vaulted roof (pictured), the repeating glass structure in a Parisienne shopping mall, or the curvaceous footprint of Dusseldorf's parliamentary buildings discovered from above.
Inside the Oxo Tower, Photo by Tea Time in London
The recent project titled ‘Dream No Small Dreams’ was inspired by London’s Iconic Oxo Tower - a monumental building in the Art Deco style - that became a beacon for my late home on the South Bank. Commissioned by Coin Street Community Builders, it was important for me that the installation combined a social element, as it was designed to be viewed by the locals, visitors and community of creatives working at the Oxo Tower. My aim was to create something that would inspire and uplift. As well as reflect the iconic physical structure, positive messaging was incorporated through bright colours, aspirational scale and the optimistic titles given to each of the artworks. You can read more about that here.
Beautifully considered design means that even the simplest line or seemingly basic circle has a reason for being. In each of my subjects, there is an element of nostalgia, history and exploring its story. Finding this narrative really starts the driving force for each design, asking ‘Why do those shapes exist?’ Delving into what the architect might have been thinking and questioning if there is a social element behind this? ‘Why is that form important?’ and ‘What does it represent?’.
Taking something that has a special meaning and capturing it in a way that people can relate to is a real joy. Whether it’s a new scarf for our mainline collection or a completely bespoke commission the desire is to tell its story though our unique and graphic style.

Reimagining London’s architecture through shape, colour and composition, our latest scarf prints look to the iconic Oxo Tower as inspiration. Boasting a radiant sunburst motif, the Art Deco influences of the era are captured though the oversized graphics, aspirational scale and exciting geometric forms, which make these designs truly uplifting.
Available in five vibrant colour options, styles include our classic 90cm square and popular skinny and mini scarves. NEW for this collection is the introduction of an elegant silk twill fabric, which remains locally printed in England.
The full Scarf collection will be available to purchase in our online shop from Saturday 17th September, straddling this year’s London Fashion Week 16-20th and the London Design Festival 17-25th September. There's a fantastic programme of design focused events taking place across the capital this LDF which you can view here.
It is with respect that our shop and studio will be closed on Monday 19th September, the day of the Queen's funeral. The majority of festival events will still go ahead as planned.

A joyous tribute, this art installation celebrates one of London’s most significant cultural & historical landmarks, Oxo Tower Wharf. Inspired by its architectural grandeur each piece explores the ornamental features, stylized elements and iconic ‘OXO’ branded windows that illuminate our city’s skyline.
Dream No Small Dreams encourages self-belief, individuality and creative expression through a series of dynamic, confident and cheerful designs. The brief was to create 5 decorative art panels for installation on the Bargehouse at the foot of the tower, complimenting a newly proposed social platform with seating, planters and lush greenery.
Colourful and vibrant, the scheme looks to promote the venue as one of London’s most desirable places for people to meet, relax and enjoy themselves - all whilst taking in the iconic architecture that graces the Thames shoreline.
“The impressive Art Deco style of the Oxo Tower evokes a powerful optimism and monumental strength. Looking to this striking architecture I hope to symbolise the courage, energy and determination that connects each of today’s independent makers” Says Gina.
PANELS 1 & 2
Featuring an energetic up-scaled Deco pattern and architecturally inspired borders, these contemporary designs echo the creativity, energy and industry that the OXO Tower and Bargehouse represent. Set in to the existing surrounds, this pair of large ‘windows’ sees the OXO Tower and its decorative topper shining brightly in London’s skyline.
PANELS 3, 4 & 5
Each panel represents the fun, lively and vibrant nature of the OXO Towers' designer/maker studios, creative events and community feel of the Southbank. Elements within the artworks are familiar to the Tower itself, with each striking motif directly linked to the buildings physical form, its decorative features and impressive structure. We challenge you to spot them all!
Gina Pipet is a designer, maker and artist from London, who has lived and worked on the South Bank for over a decade. Known for her distinct graphic style her designs explore abstraction and optical play through shape, colour and composition, often drawing on the man-made world and architecture as the focus of her subjects.
In keeping with Gina's signature style, aspirational graphics, upscaled patterns and intense colours are used in abundance, characterising the lively nature of Oxo Tower Wharf and its vibrant creative community. The magnificent scale together with an uplifting palette aim to inspire, creating a welcoming place for children, families and wider community to discover, explore and enjoy.
“These works hope to compliment the industrial charm and embrace the rich history that is continually being written here on the South Bank” Says Gina.
Above: Gina Pipét on site in 2021 visiting three of the large scale windows included in the installation.
Dream No Small Dreams
Dream No Small Dreams urges us to reach beyond our self-imposed limitations and reminds us that extraordinary greatness can only be achieved when we dare to try. Creative practice takes self-belief, ambition and lots of motivation. Look to those around you for support and make the things that matter to you happen.
“Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to move the hearts of men.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Creative Happy People
This work celebrates the longstanding maker community at Oxo Tower Wharf. It represents the significance of having a place to grow and flourish, nurturing one’s creative practice. Finding a separate physical and mental space, where you can interact with other creatives, generate ideas and form your design aesthetic is so valuable. It’s important we continue to have organisations like Coin Street Community Builders who provide accessible spaces and make these opportunities available to the generations that follow.
Let Yourself Be Seen
We often hide and edit our thoughts, opinions and creative expressions for fear of judgement or to fit in with the current social media trend. Staying true to yourself can be a difficult task, especially when exactly what that may be is continually evolving and hard to define.
Let Yourself Be Seen is about You doing YOU. Be all that you are and show your truly glorious colours.
Today Is A Good Day
Today is a good day, because you’re doing what you love. Today may seem like the hardest day, and its possible tomorrow will be even tougher as we strive to reach greater goals. It’s not easy to forge your own path in life, but only in the act of doing can we learn, improve and progress. Shun the doubt. Embrace the challenge, and live your best life. It’s time to enjoy the journey!
The Perfect Moment Is This One
A creative mind is never usually a still one. The constant demand for newness when you’ve just made your best work leaves us little time to be still, take stock and appreciate the results. Sometimes we can forget to live in the now for always thinking about the future.
The Perfect Moment Is This One is a cue to pause, enjoy and be present in our day-to-day experiences. Why not capture your perfect moment and share your selfie here in front of this joyous piece!
This permanent installation consists of five large scale art panels installed in Nov 2021. They can be found at Oxo Tower Wharf, Barge House St, London SE1 9PH and are free to visit.
The project is commissioned by Coin Street Community Builders.

This year London Craft Week returned in full swing to its regular date in May for its 8th edition. I decided to celebrate this occasion by accepting the challenge of putting on my largest exhibition of work to date at London’s Oxo Tower Wharf for The Future of Craft.
I was delighted to have been invited by Louisa Pacifico, Director of Future Icons, to take over my own room in the Bargehouse, giving me an opportunity to share my latest works and demonstrate how my craft embraces innovative digital technology.
A true showcase of 'work in progress' the event gave visitors an opportunity to discover my tricks of the trade as I presented our new scarf design alongside a selection of fabrics, colour tests, and digital presentation works. Visitors were able to see how I translate my designs onto a variety art prints, and enjoy our recent commission with Coin Street Community Builders installed on The Bargehouse itself.

The following images are from the LCW exhibition, displaying works at different stages of the development process. From colour consistency to innovative digital rendering, each description highlights how these valuable ‘tools’ play an essential part in achieving the highest levels of quality needed for our bespoke fabrics and premium accessories.

The low minimums offered with digitally printed fabric gives greater flexibility and creative freedom to small practices. A fabric test print allows trials to be made in quantities as little as one meter.
As with the Colour Blanket, it is often necessary to make a test print on fabric during the development stage and before going to production. This test print often includes smaller sections of multiple designs, and numerous colourways. It is useful to see how the design will translate to that particular fabric and a good stage to check the clarity of smaller details such as fine lines, motifs or brand logos.
This piece features our initial design for our OXO scarf. Despite creating a digital visualisation, it proved necessary to make a physical test print too. In trying this scarf on the body, Gina deemed the scale of the elements too large, prompting a complete rework to the current design, V2.
OXO Scarf Design, V2.
3D Rendered Digital Visualisations, Pipet Design
3D Rendering helps us tell our story and test designs through high quality visualisations. Being able to imagine a product before it exists has helped refine our design process, making our practice even more sustainable.
Whilst not a replacement for real-life product photography, it is an accessible means of building a cohesive product range, obtaining a good sense of what’s to come through realistic product shots. Working with these digital tools as a guide, Gina is able to experiment with different elements of a design, check colour combinations, and test the style of a scarf when wrapped or draped, before committing to physical samples.
“LCW is the perfect occasion to show a ‘behind-the-scenes’ and emphasise the details in the making – not just the final product. This time it’s all about Process, and on display is my forthcoming scarf design mid-point in its development. I wanted to share how I combine state of the art technology with more traditional materials, and some of the tools that help us be as streamlined and sustainable as possible throughout our design, development and production processes” Says Gina.
OXO Scarf Panels in Various Colour ways
Pre-Production Test Print, Pipet Design
Digitally Printed on Silk Twill. England, UK
Gina is early adopter of digital fabric printing. She has witnessed its stirring emergence into the fashion industry, to its current-day standing as a readily available go-to production method. As an independent designer-maker, having access to industry level digital fabric production is a game changer. Low production minimums mean no excess waste or overstock, and by working with UK manufacturers we are able to keep our carbon footprint low with local travel, benefiting both business and the environment.
Over the last 10 years we have built relationships with the best print facilities in the UK, keeping us at the forefront of digital print technology as it evolves. These advancements in digital print allow us to achieve very fine quality products, including our luxury silk scarves.
The centerpiece shows our forthcoming scarf panels printed on a traditional silk twill fabric. Once checked and approved for colours, this pre-production test run is the final step before placing our order for production printing.

Bespoke Fabrics & Accessories, Pipet Design
Printed and Made in England, UK
Each year we add to our library of in-house fabric designs which can be custom printed to suit both fashion and interior projects. These cushions feature patterns from our latest ‘Thames’ fabric collection, which looks to the iconic buildings along London’s popular South Bank. The collection includes references to the heavy board-formed concrete shapes of the National Theatre and the branded lights of the OXO Tower as key inspirations.
Dream No Small Dreams
Pre-Production Test Print, Pipet Design
UV Flatbed Printer, Marine Ply. Onward Display, London, UK
Oxo Court Yard Project, Coin Street Community Builders
When asked to produce several large scale artworks to be installed on The Bargehouse at Oxo Tower Wharf it was important not to detract from the industrial character of the building. With the help of the team at Onward Display we have been able to remain sympathetic to the surroundings by combining state of the art print technologies with traditional materials.
Using Marine Plywood for the first time it was important to understand how the print would look on this particular ground. This full-scale section was produced to check for colour, clarity and sizing of the image before the final panels were put into production.
"This new printing technology uses ultra-fine ink which is dropped directly onto the wood and cured with UV light. In order to achieve the rich and vibrant colours required, two base coats of white ink were applied to the naturally dark wood surface before adding the final design".
Creating custom artwork for these panels using vector graphics means that these are completely scalable without losing any detail or diminishing the quality of the design. This flexibility enables Gina to undertake diverse projects such as this installation, and opens up new opportunities to produce work at a much larger scale.
Commissioned by Coin Street Community Builders, this installation is a tribute to one of London’s most significant cultural & historical landmarks, Oxo Tower Wharf. Each panel tells a story, encouraging self-belief, individuality and creative expression through a series of 5 cheerful artworks.
A culmination of two years work centred around our ‘Thames’ print collection, it was the perfect event to launch this project and dedicate a whole room to these colourful designs. Click below to discover all about our Dream No Small Dreams commission.
Future Icons members at The Future of Craft 2022
A huge thanks to everyone who attended throughout the week and helped celebrate the launch of The Future Of Craft at our private view night. I really couldn’t have imagined such an amazing turn out, and it was wonderful to see so much interest for the works and craft on show here this LCW22. It was the perfect place to launch our OXO inspired designs and pay homage to the place where I have lived for most of my London life.
The designs you see will be coming as finished scarves in the next few months, so keep an eye out on our newsletter for those. It was great to share our recent installation on the Bargehouse, and I couldn’t be happier that several of my new prints are off to new homes too!
Thanks to Louisa at Future Icons, Sophie and Annette at Oxo Tower Wharf and the whole team making this happen.

We're delighted to be part of a special retail experience at the Museum of London this winter to celebrate 'London Making Now'. Shop our range of unique fashion accessories inspired by the city's iconic architecture of the Barbican.
]]>
Ever wondered what inspires some of London's most famous makers? Well now is your chance to find out at the Museum of London's latest exhibition, London Making Now.
To coincide with this exciting show, the museum has partnered with designer/maker organisation Craft Central to curate a handpicked offering of goods made by independent makers - all with this magnificent city at the heart of their work.
We're delighted to be part of this special retail experience this winter. Like each of the makers chosen, our prints and accessories fit the theme perfectly in both design and make. Inspired by the architecture of The City, our Barbican collection draws its origins from one of London's most iconic brutalist buildings (the Barbican) which happens to sit at the site of the museum itself!
A selection of our printed silk scarves, pocket squares and accessories will be available in the museum's gift shop from Friday 22nd October 2021.

With the New Year comes new aspirations, and these needn't always be of the arduous sort. I'm a believer in making more of what we have and that even the smallest of changes can bring about a lot of good feelings.
When it comes to getting ready for the day (especially in lockdown) it's easy to reach for the comfy wardrobe staples. Whether it's a sweater and slacks kind of day or you need something a little more formal, the addition of your favorite accessory can make all the difference and lift your mood as well as your outfit.
Some of you may have received one of our scarves for Christmas and if you're not (yet) a seasoned scarf wearer may be wondering how best to wear these, especially if you're now WFH.
Knowing it may be a while until we meet again, I did a little filming during our recent residency at Mayfair's Burlington Arcade. I want to share with you our second short style video featuring our new Graphica Skinny scarf. There's several very simple and easy looks that you can follow and try and I'm sure you'll have that at-home scarf style down in no time!
I hope you enjoy. To watch our Mini Scarf Style and similar videos head over to my YouTube channel HERE and give us a little Like 👍 Leave a Comment and Subscribe - Thanks!

We did it. We made it though the most difficult year ever - well done everyone! Despite this year being turned upside down, there's so many positive things we must take forward into what has to be a much brighter year ahead.
As the new year comes upon us it's always a wonderful time to reflect on where the year went and all the things that did go right!
I've enjoyed having a look back over the past year and remembering some of the more joyous occasions. From public artwork & community projects, moving studio, new accessories and prints, our Thames fabric collection, finding the courage to go live on IGTV and starting a YouTube channel. Not to mention a 2 month residency in one of the most beautiful boutiques in the world. Strangely I feel like I've connected with many more of you on a much deeper and personal level, despite there being an inforced physical distance. How nice is that.
It's been a real encouragement to see the amount of support shown for small and creative businesses. Once again, I want to say a big thank you for everyone who has come along with me on my journey for another year. It's been humbling to receive your messages and kind words over the last few months. Thank you! x
I hope you can all find some time to reflect on a few nice moments of 2020, even if it was as simple as mastering how to bake the most delicious cinnamon buns, managing 3 online Yoga sessions in a row or discovering the best show to binge watch on Netflix.
Sending you all best wishes for a brighter 2021!
Gina x

This December I had the pleasure of joining Estila's Karolina Barnes for not one, but two IGTV Live interviews. The first was a quick fire intro sharing our new silk accessories. The second, being much more of a deep dive into the world of PIPÉT.
I was able to save the recordings and pleased to share them with you here, so you can watch these even if you're not on Instagram.
'Behind the Brand' - IGTV Live interview with Estila Magazine
I'm new to the world of live interviews, but it was a nice opportunity to think on your feet and have a conversation with someone who is has also been in the industry for a while and can share their viewpoint.
Karolina and I spoke about some really important topics and I'm grateful to get into the nitty gritty of being a more sustainable business, the benefits of custom design and how we can all create with more purpose. It's all in the talk, so get comfy and have a watch.
It was a fantastic experience, and surprising how much you can cover in under an hour. I've edited it down to just 30 minutes so it's a bit more manageable. You can watch the shorter edit here, above.
INTERIOR DESIGNERS - I'd love to hear your thoughts!
I've spent a lot of time this summer reworking our internal processes and implementing new ways of working which offer opportunities for change within the design industry. I invite you to take a look at our digital & downloadable catalogues and also full specs that are available within our Trade Area.
Drop me an email. I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this.

This week is London Craft Week and I’m delighted to have our full range of colourful umbrellas at Burlington Arcade as part of Future Icons Presents.
Umbrellas really are an essential accessory, and I wanted to share a few facts about what makes ours so special!
☂️All Pipet umbrellas are hand made in London by James Ince Umbrellas 1805, a family run business established over 215 years ago. They are recognised as the longest established manufacturer in the UK.
☂️The making of Umbrellas and Parasols is on The Heritage Crafts ‘Red List of Endangered Crafts’. There are less than a handful of Craftspeople currently known in the UK i.e those using traditional techniques that would have been recognised 50+ years ago.
☂️Historic areas of significance for making were London, Sheffield and Manchester, with the craft still practiced today in London, Croydon, Manchester, South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire.
☂️Umbrellas were first introduced to England in around 1709, but Jonas Hanway is noted in 1750 as the first Englishman to carry an umbrella regularly. He was pelted by Coachmen since they saw his craze could endanger their own means of livelihood.
☂️Umbrellas used to be made with heavy whalebone or cane ribs, and covered in a waxed or oiled cotton fabric. Lighter weight silk fabrics and iron stretchers were later used. Nowadays the canopy is made largely from a variety of polyesters with strong metal frames that are a combination of steel and fibreglass, providing both strength and flexibility.

It's been too long since we've seen you all, we hope that you and your families have been safe and well during this time period.
With all major events cancelled this year, it's been a tough time for all craft practitioners, designers and artists to survive. Events give us an opportunity to reconnect with new and existing clients and industry professionals for commercial projects.
Although we are unable to showcase at a large event this year, we are delighted to be part of a stunning boutique for two months in London's historic Burlington Arcade in Mayfair.
Read on to learn more about who will be showcasing with us and how you can attend our gallery.
Located on the Piccadilly end of the arcade, Future Icons will present 14 key craft practitioners across two levels in a beautiful boutique. Comprised of home accessories, jewellery, furniture and wall-based artworks, makers have created collections from wood, metal, ceramics, textiles and leather.
New collections:
Many of the collections on show have been produced exclusively during lock-down, often in make shift home studios. These will be the first public showing of these products, a chance for visitors to view and purchase directly from the store and support the work of luxury craft practitioners.
Meet the Maker:
Throughout September & October, Future Icons welcomes visitors to pre book private appointments to meet the artists and makers on show. Within this 1-hour appointment, visitors will learn more about how the artworks have been crafted, the inspirations for the collections as well as a chance to handle works and samples.
Collections on show from:

Welcome to this tutorial on how to make a fashionable fabric face mask. Here I show you an easy way to make a reusable and washable face cover from 2 squares of fabric.
You will need:
For these masks I am using a selection of printed cotton fabrics from our previous collections for the front and a tightly woven, lighter weight plain cloth for the reverse.
I've found this design to be one of our favourite versions due to the adjustable elastic straps. The pleats create a nice cupped shape which helps give space over the nose and mouth to breathe. To make a mask with loops that fit around the ears you can adapt the same basic design by using shorter elastic straps sewn into the sides, instead of the top and bottom edges.
I hope you find this tutorial helpful. Thanks for watching!

It's always encouraging to see creative communities and organisations working together to help stop the spread of Covid-19. I'm honoured to be part of a recent project by Coin Street Community Builders supporting local artists and bringing creativity and positivity to the community. #LondonTogether #SocialDistancing
]]>Amidst the current health situation it's encouraging to see how creative communities and organisations are working together to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
A recent project by Coin Street Community Builders sees them supporting local artists and sharing positive messages via their digital billboard. Located at the foot of Waterloo Bridge the poster is displayed in one of the most prominent places along the Southbank, visible by cars, buses and visitors to the Southbank. I was honoured to be asked to join the project and create a unique artwork for the billboard.
Taking my weekly exercise in the local neighbourhood, I see the weekends getting busier and footfall ever increasing. With more and more people being tempted back to the Southbank I started to think how to use the space for the best. The most important message I could share at this time is to please, Keep Social Distancing!
The Southbank's iconic architecture
It's a pleasure to work on a project for my local community, and I love the opportunity to combine a pattern from our forthcoming Thames Collection of interior fabrics.
The design is inspired by the graphic O's and X of the iconic OXO Tower windows. I wanted to convey the message of social distancing by showing the temporary physical separation needed to help improve the current state of our country's health. We can only achieve this by working together.
One thing that you can do to help protect your community is to follow the Government health guidance and keep a safe distance apart. Two meters is the current advice, which can often be hard to achieve especially in more built up areas. So if you see someone on the approach, just take a minute to hold back, let them pass, or cross the street if needed, but please respect their space also. Fabric face coverings are also advised and can help stop the spread of germs.
Whilst in lockdown we must remain positive and look forward to a time when we can all safely enjoy London's Southbank again in full glory.
Until then - Stay alert, stay safe, and keep social distancing!
#LondonTogether

In March it was all systems go as we prepared to launch our new fabric collection at 'The Future of Craft' for London Craft Week, 29 Apr - 3 May 2020. Due to open it's doors this week we were looking forward to welcoming you at our next major showcase at London's iconic OXO Bargehouse.
With all design events postponed until later in the year, we wanted to share with you a special glimpse of what we've been working on and what's to come. We hope you enjoy our brief LCW Collection preview and invite you to keep an eye on our Instagram Stories as we release behind the scenes images of our process and making over these last few months.
In this preview we introduce two exciting new prints Lasdun and Lyttelton from our forthcoming 'Thames' fabric collection. Following on from our debut ‘Barbican’ range, Gina Pipét continues to celebrate London’s Brutalist and modern architecture that stands just a stone’s throw away from the designer’s home on the Southbank.
Saluting the iconic buildings that line the River Thames Jubilee Walkway, the collection includes references to the heavy board-formed concrete shapes of the National Theatre and the iconic branded lights of the OXO Tower as key inspirations.
Lasdun fabric in Mid Blue, also shown on sofa.
For interiors we offer an exciting new direction to the collection with the addition of a softer, more fluid print, Lasdun, coming in alongside the brand’s signature geometrics. Statement stand-alone designs are intentionally brave in scale, each complimented by a set of coordinating infinity prints.
Lyttelton fabric in Mid Blue.
Sophisticated colour palettes team modern shades of soft pink with dark forest, elegantly chic deep blues, and luxuriously rich rust into three contemporary colour moods.
Lasdun fabric in soft Pink.
The PIPÉT interior fabric range incorporates a growing library of prints and patterned fabric designs. Printed to order, we are able to customise your design to suit your requirements and offer a wide range of fabric bases suitable for both Residential and Contract interior design projects.
Due to the unfortunate Covid-19 situation the collection release has been postponed and is due to launch later in the year. Register your interest on our website homepage and sign-up for our fabric updates via our Newsletter.
